REQUIREMENT

Two dual pumping stations were required to remove foul and storm water separately from a newly constructed residential apartment block consisting of 12 two-bedroom apartments. A gravity run to the main sewer was not possible due to the difference in levels between the site drainage and main sewer connection.

Installation would be in two pre-cast concrete ring chambers installed by the client with the control equipment situated within an external kiosk adjacent to the chambers.

METHOD

After a comprehensive site survey by an Edincare technical project coordinator, a full specification and quotation was compiled for client approval. We also advised the client of the civil and electrical works required in advance of our arrival on site. Following approval we supplied a site-specific risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) to the client.

Dual pedestal mounted pump sets, internal pipe work kits, valves and control panels with visual and audible alarms were installed by a multiskilled Edincare team with confined space safety training.

A technical project coordinator managed the project to ensure timely completion to high standards.

RESULT

The system met all technical requirements and works, from concept to commissioning, were completed by Edincare within the agreed timeframe and budget.

FOCUS ON:

CONCRETE RINGS

Pre-cast concrete ring chambers allow for high capacities required by larger developments such as apartment blocks. Diameter and depth can be varied to the project’s requirements.

They are highly cost effective and are particularly suited to deep installations where chambers of over 6m depth are required.

Pre-cast concrete ring chambers are suitable for all pumping applications from foul, storm, surface and ground waters to rainwater harvesting.
